FAN’s Grocery Store Guide: 7 Ways to Avoid Fluoride in Beverages and Food

FAN’s Grocery Store Guide: 7 Ways to Avoid Fluoride in Beverages and Food

Fluoride Action Network

Over the past 100 years, the levels of fluoride in foods purchased at the grocery store have increased. The reason for this increase is multi-fold, and includes the mass fluoridation of water supplies in some countries, the introduction of fluoride-based pesticides, and the use of mechanical deboning processes in the meat industry.
So, how do you know which beverages and foods at the grocery store are most likely to contain elevated fluoride, and which of these products are most important to avoid? To answer these questions, FAN has produced the following seven “general rules.” The more you remember these rules when you shop, the more you will reduce your fluoride intake.

General Rule #1: The Naturally Occurring Level of Fluoride In Food & Water Is Very Low

The naturally occurring levels of fluoride in fruits, vegetables, meat, grain, eggs, milk, and fresh water supplies are generally very low (less than 0.1 ppm). There are only three exceptions to this rule that you need to know: seafood, tea, and water from deep wells all have elevated fluoride levels in the absence of human activity. Thus, besides tea, seafood, and deep well water, you don’t have to worry about mother nature adding to your fluoride intake.

General Rule #2: The More Processed a Food Is, the More Fluoride It Will Have

The fluoride level in food generally increases during industrial food-making processes. This is particularly true in countries with mass water fluoridation programs (e.g., United States), since it is common for food processors to use the public water supply to make their products. When you buy a beverage or food, therefore, think of how much industrial processing would have been required to get the product in the shape it’s in. The more processing, the more fluoride. Juice that is not made from concentrate will have less fluoride than reconstituted juice, a roast chicken breast will have less fluoride than a chicken nugget, etc, etc.

General Rule #3: We Get More Fluoride from Liquids than Solid Foods

If you have to choose between limiting your fluoride intake from beverages or limiting it from foods, you should definitely focus on limiting it from beverages. This is because we get far more fluoride from liquid, than food. If you have to choose between buying grape juice and raisins that are both contaminated with fluoride pesticide, buy the raisins and skip the juice.

General Rule #4: Flavored Beverages = Fluoridated Water

If you live a country with widespread water fluoridation, most flavored beverages that you buy (e.g., soda, sports drinks, juice drinks, beer) have between 5 and 10 times more fluoride (0.5 to 1.0 ppm) than bottled water and other sources of fresh water (0.1 ppm). One way to cut down on your exposure to these sources is to buy juice instead of juice drinks. (And, remember, don’t buy juice that is made from concentrate.)

General Rule #5: Organic Food Has Significantly Less Fluoride

Organic food has less fluoride than non-organic food because fluoride pesticides are not permitted to be used. Your daily fluoride exposure will thus be reduced if you eat more organic fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes.

General Rule # 6: Grape Beverages = Fluoride Pesticide

Due to heavy use of fluoride pesticides on vineyards in the United States, beverages that are made from conventionally grown U.S. grapes are the main way people are exposed to fluoride pesticides. The best way to reduce your exposure to fluoride pesticides, therefore, is to avoid consumption of non-organic U.S. grape juice and wine, particularly white grape juices and wines. After eliminating this exposure source, focus next on reducing your consumption of non-organic U.S. raisins, dried beans, pinto beans, dried fruit, walnuts, and tree nuts.

General Rule #7: Processed Meats = More Fluoride

The more industrial processing that a meat product has had, the more likely it will contain elevated fluoride. This is because the meat industry uses a mechanical deboning process that contaminates the meat with higher levels of fluoride-laden bone particles. This is particularly true with chicken meats. A chicken nugget will thus contain more fluoride than a roast chicken; and a slice of sandwich chicken meat will contain more fluoride than a slice from a roasted chicken.

What Research Says About Diabetes And Gymnema Sylvestre?

What Research Says About Diabetes And Gymnema Sylvestre?

One study looked at the effectiveness of GS4, which is an extract from the Gymnema sylvestre leaves, in the management of hyperglycemia. The study investigated 22 patients with type 2 diabetes. These patients were also taking regular oral medications to control their diabetes.  GS4 was given to each of the study’s participants at 400 milligrams per day, for 18 to 20 months.  Each participant was on both – the supplement and the conventional anti-diabetic drug.  During GS4 supplementation, these participants showed decreased  fasting blood glucose levels, hemoglobin A1c levels and glycosylated plasma protein levels.  The supplement was so successful that five participants from the study were able to stop their conventional drug treatment. It was noted that they were able to maintain normal levels of glucose and hemoglobin A1c even after their conventional treatments were discontinued. Researchers determined that the beta cells of the pancreas may have been repaired or regenerated in the participants who took GS4 as a supplement for their diabetesIncreased insulin levels were found in those patients who took the GS4 supplement.
In another study, researchers gave 27 people with type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes 400 mg of Gymnema sylvestre extract (GS4) daily. After 10 to 12 months, it was found that the Gymnema sylvestre extract had conferred a number of benefits. Reductions in fasting blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c and glycosylated plasma protein levels were noticed. Insulin requirements were also reduced.
Is there an alternative to popping pills?

How Gymnema Sylvestre Works

Gymnema sylvestre appears to work by suppressing a desire for sugary foods, as well as balancing blood sugar levels.
Physiologically speaking, there does seem to be good evidence that Gymnema sylvestre lowers sugar cravings. The herb contains Gymnemic acid, a nutrient found in certain plants that have been proven to suppress sweetness.
Additionally, Gymnemic acid is structurally similar to glucose. The theory is that when you consume Gymnema sylvestre, it fills your taste bud receptors. This then prevents glucose from docking in those same receptors and cuts your craving for sugar and sweets.
Because Gymnemic acid is similar to glucose, Gymnema sylvestre may also lock into the glucose receptors in your intestines. This prevents the absorption of sugar molecules, leading to balanced blood sugar levels even when you consume sugar-based foods.

Gymnema Sylvestre Diabetic Treatment Dosage

Generally, research on Gymnema sylvestre has been done with 500 mg capsules, standardized to contain at least 25% Gymnemic acid. They should be taken 5 to 10 minutes before a main meal, with a large glass of water.
Another option is to use time-released Gymnemic acid supplements. These make it easier to manage a diabetic regimen and medications.

How To Make Gymnema Sylvestre Tea

Gymnema Tea helps with diabetes and weight loss
The best way to consume a natural herb is through its decoction in warm water. You can pour a cup of boiling water over the leaves of Gymnema to make tea. Cover and steep it for ten to fifteen minutes before drinking it. Other tea leaves, such as green tea, can be added for taste. The combined effect coul even help with weight loss. It is not advisable to take Gymnema sylvestre tea on an empty stomach as it may a cause mild upset stomach.

Gymnema Sylvestre Interactions And Side Effects

With no side effects reported, Gymnema sylvestre is relatively safe. Its use should be monitored when taken with certain anti-diabetic medications. Otherwise, the cumulative effect may lead to plummeting blood sugar and resulting hypoglycemia.
For example, if you are taking aspirin, you should monitor your Gymnema sylvestre consumption carefully. Aspirin can lower blood sugar, leading to hypoglycemia.

Gymnema Safety

Gymnema sylvestre is a safe herb to consume. However, under certain special conditions, it is advisable to not take this herb. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take Gymnema. If you are planning to undergo surgery, you should stop taking Gymnema, since it can lead to hypoglycemia and resulting complications during or after surgery.
There is an clear link between diabetes and obesity, with more than 80% diabetics also being obese. However, the biochemical link between these two chronic conditions has been discovered only recently. The fat cells in diabetic patients were found to produce a hormone called “resistin” (resisting insulin) which impairs insulin action and causes glucose intolerance.
Since Gymnema seems to help with obesity and diabetes, it may give diabetics a double benefit. Obesity is caused by accumulation of carbohydrates. Gymnemic acids do not let carbohydrates bind to receptors on the intestinal walls, preventing absorption and storage of excess carbohydrates. This mechanism also helps curb excess blood sugar.

Gymnema Sylvestre And Diabetes: The Verdict

Gymnema sylvestre is not a substitute for diabetes medication. While lowering high blood sugar is, generally, a positive thing in people with diabetes, lowering it too much can be extremely dangerous. If you’re going to supplement with Gymnema sylvestre to treat your diabetes, please do so under your doctor’s supervision. Check your blood sugar levels more often until you know how it affects your body. Also, check your blood sugar levels every time you increase the dosage.
There are many natural supplements that can help you counter the side effects of prescription anti-diabetic drugs. They may also protect your body from other side effects that occur when vital nutrients are lost from the body as a result of drugs.
Finally, remember that no supplement can overcome a diet filled with processed sugars. Even if Gymnema sylvestre does help you suppress that sugar and carb cravings, you will still need to follow a well-rounded diet and engage in moderate daily exercise. The weight reduction properties shown by Gymnema slvestre are yet to be fully researched, but it is a valuable ally in your corner in the fight against diabetes and obesity.

Colon Cancer

If you've been studying about free colon cleanse recipes, then you know that cleansing your colon is one of the fastest and easiest ways of achieving good health naturally. Colon cleansing, when done properly can cure ailments ranging from constipation and acne to obesity, candida, fibromyalgia, colitis and chronic fatigue. Apart from the fact that colon cleansing is done using only harmless natural ingredients and herbs, most people can carry out a colon cleanse easily by using home made colon cleanse recipes and these two facts make it a popular option for people seeking good health naturally.
Random searches on the internet will yield hundreds of results for free colon cleanse recipes. However, you need to be very careful before you start using any such recipe. This is because most free colon cleansing recipes are compiled by lay persons who have simply tried out a couple of recipes or just read about them somewhere and reproduced them.
In other cases, unscrupulous sellers will provide you with free colon cleansing recipes that use ingredients which are being sold on their web sites, irrespective of whether they are effective or not. Therefore, you should always check with others who have used a particular recipe about how beneficial or effective it has been or how it works. With that being said, we provide you here with a couple of free colon cleansing recipes that everyone—ranging from your friend next door to your alternative medicine practitioner—will vouch for.
1. Bentonite Clay and Psyllium Husk: Bentonite Clay and Psyllium Husk are two of the most commonly used and effective ingredients for colon cleansing. Mix one teaspoon of Psyllium Husk and one teaspoon of Bentonite Clay in a glass of water and drink it. Follow this up with a glass of plain water. Do not have anything for two hours after consuming this shake. For the first three days, drink a single glass of this P&B shake, drink two glasses on the 4th and 5th days and increase consumption slowly to at least four to five glasses for the 8th to 14th days. In most cases, your colon will be super clean by now.
2. Sea Salt Solution: A salt water cleanse is often called a master cleanse because it purges all pathogens, bacteria and mucoidal plaque from the colon. To make a salt water solution, mix two level tablespoons of sea salt (not common salt) to a quart of warm water and drink it all up first thing in the morning before consuming anything else. You can continue for 15 days to get a completely clean and healthy colon, or use this recipe once a week to ensure proper colon health. It is advised that you use a laxative for a couple of days before starting salt water cleanse so that extra waste is already flushed out.
If you want to be successful with the Master Cleanse, you will want some insider tips. I highly recommend this E-book to people who want to get all of the benefits of the Master Cleanse diet.
Master Cleanse Secrets
This E-book is your guide to losing weight and keeping it off. Plus learn about the secrets to avoid the nasty side effects and avoid any potential health problems.
No matter what free colon cleanse recipe you follow, make sure that you follow the other steps and precautions listed with it. For one, you will need to drink at least four liters of water a day if you are doing a home made colon cleanse. Taking probiotics is another important thing that you should not miss in order to maintain the required number of healthy bacteria in your colon. In most cases, you will also have to abstain from processed foods, artificial sugars, meat and dairy while consuming a diet of fresh raw or steamed fruits and vegetables. After fifteen days of following a colon cleanse regimen, you will need to gradually get back to a normal diet over a period of ten to fifteen days.

Vaccines Destroy Immune Balance Through Abnormal Route Of Entry & Toxic Ingredients

Dr. Wakefield says that vaccines cause autism and explains in detail why adjuvants used in vaccines to stimulate a TH2 antibody immune response causes an abnormal overload and stress on the immune system that leads to immune dysfunction, which can lead to a wide variety of chronic health problems. Vaccination bypasses the TH1 cellular responses (responsible for 80% of our immune function according to Dr. Toni Bark) yet the immune system works best when both TH1 and TH2 work synergistically together. Vaccination destroys the synergy of the immune system because injection bypasses normal route of entry (through the lungs, often times) whereby TH1 cell response is the first response to happen. An antibody response is not an indicator of immunity, only of an allergic response. Natural immunity and being vaccine free is the healthiest option for children.

Cancer Cure Shot Down By The FDA

Dear Friend,
Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski might have been born in Poland...
But if you - or a loved one - want to ward off cancer...
Then you can consider him an American Hero betrayed by the medical establishment.
Graduating from med school at just 24-years-old, Dr. Burzynski was a true medical prodigy.
And back in the 1970s, he noticed most “mainstream” cures like chemo and radiation did not extend life.
In fact, they made cancer WORSE.
He knew there had to be a better way. And late one night, Dr. Burzynski made the discovery of the century.
Dr. Burzynski discovered there’s a certain peptide that "turns on" cancer killing genes... and also switches OFF cancer causing genes at the same time.
The best part? It’s completely natural and has no side effects.
But is it effective?
You’d better believe it!
In Dr. Burzynski’s patients, the success rate of this strange peptide was MUCH better than chemo or any other “toxic” cancer treatment.
For example, 11-year-old Jessica Ressel had an incurable brain tumor. But after Dr. Burzynski gave Jessica a healthy dose of his remarkable formula... An MRI scan revealed Jessica’s tumor had vanished!
Today, Jessica is a healthy, cancer-free woman with her own family... All thanks to Dr. Burzynski’s “miracle” therapy.
Excited to get folks OFF chemo and save millions, Dr. Burzynski revealed his discovery to the FDA and National Cancer Institute.
BIG MISTAKE!
The lackeys at the FDA saw Dr. Burzynski as a threat to their billion-dollar cancer profit machine. So, they swooped in and tried to revoke his medical license not once... but THREE times.
Over $60 million of taxpayer money was used to shut him down.
And it gets even more sinister:
FDA scientists tried to reverse engineer and STEAL his formula. Yet they failed time after time.
Luckily, another rogue MD — Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez — concocted a similar treatment based on Dr. Burzynski’s discovery. And health experts say this astonishing protocol could be the “magic key” to finally kicking cancer to the curb forever.
And for the first time publicly...
Dr. Gonzalez revealed The Gonzalez Protocol -- a simple, three-pronged system that kills cancer cells -- in a private interview.
And it’s just one of dozens of other underground “cures” included in a FREE report that includes simple, little-known remedies for 7 of the world’s most dangerous diseases.
If you’re remotely interested in taking the power out of the hands of the government bureaucrats... achieving optimal health… and living a long, active, PAIN-FREE life… Click here now to learn more.

The Truth About Blindness

The Truth About Blindness

If we told you that someone was blind, what would your first assumption about them be? It would probably be that they have no sight, right? Blind people on TV, movies, and in commercials are always portrayed this way.
I mean, the story of Ray Charles is incredible. A blind pianist? Many people can’t even play the instrument with full vision.
However, no matter how incredible a story about a blind person may be, stories are often exaggerated. In fact, nobody experiences blindness the same way. We’re constantly bombarded with stereotypes surrounding blindness that some of the facts have gotten lost.
The Truth About BlindnessToday, we want to take a closer look at the eyes of a blind person. Let’s explore the realities of blindness and how blind doesn’t always mean no vision.
Defining Blindness
Strictly speaking, when someone is legally blind, they cannot see at all. When someone is blind, they are recognized by the state as someone having no vision.
Now the stereotypes make sense. We have a poor definition of blindness, which gives us a false sense of what it really is. The truth is blindness goes by many names that you’ve heard before right here on our blog.
Blindness is often used as a relative term to describe people with low vision or severe vision impairments. As you may know, low vision and vision impairments don’t always mean total blindness.
People living with different degrees of blindness will be able to perceive anything from nothing to shapes and light.
Blindness Causes
While some babies are born with blindness, this is not the case for many. The majority of the time, blindness is caused by another eye disease or eye infection. The condition can sometimes be tough to pin down because so many different factors come into play.
Born Blind
When a baby is born blind, often it is the result of the eyes not forming properly. Researchers aren’t too sure what causes the eyes not to form the way that they should. Just like no one is too sure why some babies are born with longer eye balls or shorter ones. Both of these deformities can cause myopia and hyperopia.
The most widely accepted theory to explain why some babies are born blind is genetics. If blindness caused by eye deformities runs in the family, there is a chance of it being passed on to an unborn child. However, a number of complications during pregnancy can also cause blindness in babies.
In some very rare cases, blindness in newborns can be caused by congenital cataracts. Cataracts are typically associated with aging eyes. However, in babies, cataracts are often caused by diseases, illnesses, or disorders experienced by the mother during pregnancy.
Age-Related Eye Diseases
The leading causes of blindness in the world are due to age-related eye diseases. This includes cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Cataracts is a disease that cause the lens of the eye to become clouded. When this happens and goes untreated it will affect a person’s central vision. Often the disease will affect both eyes. In some rare cases, one eye may be affected while the other may not.
Glaucoma is another disease that can cause blindness. Glaucoma is caused by the intraocular pressure. When the fluid pressure in the eye is too high, it begins to press down on the optic nerve. This can cause severe and irreversible damage to a person’s vision.
Macular degeneration is a disease that can realistically occur at any age. It mostly affects adults over the age of 60. In fact, as we get older, we will most likely all experience macular degeneration. The disease can be delayed through adopting a proper eye-healthy diet. However, it cannot be prevented entirely.
The disease is exactly what it sounds like – the degeneration of the macula. The macula is found at the center of the retina. This disease is irreversible and there is no known cure for it.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Not all blindness is caused by age-related diseases. Another leader in blindness-causing conditions is diabetic retinopathy. This disease can affect anyone with diabetes.
Diabetic retinopathy causes the blood vessels in the retina to grow abnormally and leak fluid into the eye. In the early stages of the disease, the leaking will cause black spots to appear in a person’s central vision. Over time, as the disease progresses, it will lead to total blindness.
Injuries
Finally, the last cause on our list is injury. Eye injuries, depending on how serious they are, can cause different degrees of blindness. A blunt hit to the eye may detach a retina and cause your vision to be severely impaired for the rest of your life.
However, it isn’t only eye injuries that can cause blindness. Head injuries, such as a concussion, can also cause blindness. It can happen when the part of the brain that deals with vision isn’t able to properly function and process images being sent to it from the optic nerve.
What Do Blind People See?
This is a tough question to answer. Ideally, if you know a person who is blind, you would ask them. Every blind person will give you a different answer. Blindness is a very personalized affliction. The following are only generalizations about what a blind person would see.
Someone born blind, for example, will likely have no vision at all. All they will be able to perceive is darkness. That being said, some people born with blindness claim to be able to see the light from the sun and other very strong lights.
Those who unfortunately find themselves in a late stage of diabetic retinopathy will experience a type of blindness similar to those born with blindness. The fluid leaking into the eye will cause complete blindness.
For blindness that is caused by age-related diseases, a person may be able to perceive much more. Blindness caused by age-related diseases is considered “low vision”. Someone with low vision may not be able to make out details, but they can see contrasts between dark and light. Colors may also be perceived, but only if something contrasts them.
Blindness caused by eye injuries will really depend on the individual. While some only experience mild vision impairment, some may find themselves completely blind.
Blindness is not the difference between being able to see and not see. It isn’t so black and white. There are different degrees of blindness based on its causes. Everyone experiences it differently. The important part is that we support those living with blindness and continue to research ways to restore lost vision.
