QUESTION:
My health history is back surgery, herniated and bulging disc. I've had three hip surgeries and two ankle surgeries. Diagnostic testing shows degeneration of lumbar disc and osteoarthritis of bilateral knees.
As a former 2nd degree Black belt, I have done all the traditional therapy they have. DDP YOGA seems to be my last chance for quality of life. My current therapist would not even consider yoga, so he no longer works with me.
I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.
ANSWER:
Always check with your treating physician first, but I would think that following the DDP YOGA eating guide to decrease your systemic inflammation would be a major player, given your situation.
It has been noticed that the more injuries and surgeries we endure, the more sensitive and reactive our musculoskeletal systems become. And, it has been duly noted by many in the nutrition world that certain foods will actually increase the body's inflammatory response, causing soreness, stiffness and pain in previously injured tissues. So, given your history, this could be a very important point.
If you do choose to do the DDP YOGA workouts, then following the "modifier" participant in each DVD or perhaps doing the Chair workouts, Beginner workouts and carefully making your way through the catalogue available on the DDP YOGA NOW fitness app is certainly worth a shot.
Remember that people with all types of orthopedic challenges have enjoyed varied degrees of positive benefit as they used the DDP YOGA Program. And some, have experienced life changing results!
You just have to be very careful and attentive as to how different aspects of the program work for you and then keep repeating what you find propels you forward on your journey back to healthy function. As a 2nd Degree Black Belt, you understand the concepts of assessment, repetition and conscious effort.
