WHY CARBONATION IS SO UNHEALTHY (NOT JUST SODA!)

WHY CARBONATION IS SO UNHEALTHY (NOT JUST SODA!)

Tiny Bubbles of Terror

People enjoy the bubbles inside of soda, seltzer and other bubbly drinks. But you probably shouldn’t drink it. Here are some reasons why carbonation is so bad for you.

Carbonation Causes Bone Loss and Tooth Enamel Erosion

Carbonation, in combination with the phosphorus inside of soda, has been shown to lead to bone loss. In women in particular, drinking colas have been tied to low bone density.
Basically, the phosphorus in colas breaks down your bones and the carbonation creates an acidic environment to accelerate this process. The calcium from your bones is then processed through your kidneys. Yuck!
For this same reason, cola has also been shown to cause tooth enamel erosion. The acids and sugars in colas are mostly responsible for this.
Seltzers, which are carbonated water, do not have the same detrimental effects on bones and teeth.  But the carbonation in seltzer water makes the water acidic, which overtime can lower your body pH and create a whole host of other health issues.
Carbonation in soda or seltzer waters can also lead to bloating and gas. For some, it can lead to IBS or irritable bowel syndrome.

Maintaining a Balanced Body pH

Your blood is about a 7.33 pH. That means that your body likes foods that are alkaline to help balance out acids in your body to maintain your blood pH. Fruit, especially berries, are really healthy for you because they are alkaline and full of antioxidants. So is ionized water.
The problem with adding carbonation to anything is that you are adding acid. Carbon is acidic to the human body. If you consume too much of it, it will lower your body’s pH and weaken your immune system. This will make it harder for your body to digest food. It will also throw off your sleep patterns.  If you eat an acidic diet for too long, it could make you susceptible to adult-onset diseases like diabetes and cancer.
The bottom line is you should avoid carbonation in soda, especially colas at all cost. But even the seltzer waters and bubbly wines should be avoided. Anything with carbonation in it is bad for your health. Instead, focus on drinking ionized water and eating a diet that is loaded with alkaline foods.
